ConocoPhillips shuts in some Kuparuk output

Anchorage—ConocoPhillips Alaska said it has shut in 12,000 b/d of crude production from three drill sites in the western part of the Kuparuk River field after an oil spill December 16 from a 24-inch diameter field pipeline spilled about 100 barrels. The Kuparuk field was producing about 150,000 b/d at the time of the spill. ConocoPhillips spokeswoman Natalie Knox said December 18 the company has determined the oil spilled from a 6-inch crack in the pipeline that was one-eighth of an inch across at the widest point.
