The output stage has a switch (58) cooperating with a freewheel diode (56) for alternately switching, according to a determined duty cycle, the current through an inductor (52) between a direct current (DC) input voltage (V1) and a non-zero DC input voltage (V2) not corresponding to a zero voltage for shutting off of an array of LEDs (50). The inductor is connected in series with the switch and the freewheel diode, where the LEDs and a non-electrolytic capacitor (54) at a terminal of the non-zero DC input voltage form a conversion stage booster. An independent claim is also included for a converter.
