Alon USA said Feb 13 it has struck a deal with Sunoco to give Alon's 70,000 b/d Big Spring,Texas,refinery more crude flexibility ahead of the possible closure of the Mesa pipeline.Alon,which runs 60,000 b/d of crude from the pipeline through its Big Spring refinery,said Jan 30 it received a notice from Mesa operator and 53.5% stakeholder Plains Pipeline saying Plains wants to shut the 316,000 b/d.line by July 1 because it is uneconomic (OPR 1/31).Sunoco Logistics,a 37% Mesa stakeholder,wants to keep the pipeline running.
