Front-month June cash WTI crude prices soared in the Platts' assessment window Friday,following June contract expiry on the New York Mercantile Exchange.June values rose from 35 cts/bbl under the NYMEX settlement Thursday to 1.40/bbl over.BP bought large volumes of both June outrights and June/July WTI spreads,picking up 1.765-mil bbl of spreads and 300,000 bbl of June contracts.The June/July cash WTI spread,which traded at minus 1.75/bbl Thursday,traded as high as minus 40 cts.
