OPEC to ask non-OPEC producers to boost output

OPEC will formally ask independent oil producing countries to boost crude output as part of a collective effort to cool down oil prices,the cartel's Indonesian president Purnomo Yus-giantoro said June 16.Purnomo told reporters in Jakarta he planned to send formal letters to non-OPEC countries such as Russia,Mexico,Angola and Oman."I will send a formal letter as soon as possible to ask them to boost oil production,"Purnomo said.Norway,an independent producer which has cooperated with OPEC in market-management measures in the past,was quick to point out it already was pumping at its maximum capacity and could not increase production."We are producing at maximum capacity.
