Focus/Report back from Shanghai-Part I

The LBMA held its annual precious metals conference in Shanghai, China from 5-7 September. The conference was well attended with around 360 delegates. It would have been hoped that the recent positive developments and impending developments in the Chinese gold market would have been able to lift the spirits of the gold market. Alas not. The mood was generally subdued to say the least, with the attitude that nothing much changes in the market. This is a concern and some of the issues were highlighted in question times and workshops, such as the lack of developments in a US gold investment product, but there was a distinct lack of follow through from participants. Perhaps it was the lack of any gold price rally at the time of the conference, and the fact that gold was just coming off a high. A summary of some of the papers given at the conference follows.
