This month, delivery of standard 75% ferrosilicon in China is assessed at RMB6,700/tonne (US$1,052/tonne). This represents a month-on-month decline of RMB50/tonne and is reflective of mounting downbeat sentiment in the steel and magnesium markets. Demand for ferrosilicon is waning in China, where sliding finished steel prices are prompting nervousness amongst steel producers who in turn are limiting raw materials purchases, given the expected slowdown in industrial activity over the summer period.
