We study electron transport in a multi-atom metallic nanoconstriction with symmetric coupling between the atoms at the nanoconstriction and the corresponding leads by starting from the consideration of the energy-averaged conductance through a one-atom wire, assuming the involved energy ranges as sufficiently large. In fact, we determine the conductance of a multi-atom wire by extrapolating the average conductance of a single-atom wire to a multi-atom one.
