Fibre orders are using new capacity as fast as it comes on line

Fibre supply, especially preform capacity, has been closely balanced with fibre demand for several years. The estimated world preform capacity in terms of fibre-km has been 3 to 7% more than fibre demand since 2009, which offers very little headroom for shutdowns, process changes, and other interruptions. (The effects of the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami have been factored into the estimate of the 2011 capacity.) Our estimate for world preform capacity in 2012 is 14% more than the 2011 level, which means the new preform capacity is barely keeping up with demand growth.
