G2X Launches Commercial Operations At Pampa Methanol Production Plant

Houston-—G2X Energy has started up and completed the first shipment from its new 65,000-t/y methanol plant in Pampa, Texas (PCN, 28 Jan 2013, p 2). The plant, earlier referred to by G2X as the "first U.S. methanol plant in years," was built on a brownfield site formerly owned by Celanese Chemical and used primarily for the production of acetic acid and acetic anhydride. The project, which utilized some existing equipment, represents a modern example of reusing existing infrastructure to lower capital costs for producing high-value fuels and chemicals, the company said.
