BASF Lifts Force Majeure on EO At Production Sites in Europe

Ludwigshafen—B AS F on 1 July lifted the force majeure declared in May on ethylene oxide (EO) at its European production sites following significant technical problems (PCN, 25 May 2015, p 1). On 17 May, the company shut down its 345,000-t/y EO plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, without specifying a problem, and was forced to reduce the production rate at its 500,000-t/y EO unit in Antwerp, Belgium. As a result of raw material shortage, BASF at the same time declared force majeure on ethylene glycol.
