Dow Separating $5-Bn in Chlorine Assets As It Prepares for Future Transactions

Midland— Dow Chemical plans to separate a significant portion of its chlorine value chain, representing up to $5-billion in annual revenue, in anticipation of future transactions. The scope of the separation involves approximately 40 production units at 11 sites, and nearly 2000 employees. Assets included in the carve-out are Dow's chlor-alkali and chlor-vinyl facilities in Plaquemine, La., and Freeport, Texas, as well as Dow's interest in the Dow Mitsui chlor-alkali joint venture in Freeport (PCN, 17 Jan 2011, p 4).
