QP & Partners Form New Venture For Next Laffan Refinery Project

Doha-Qatar Petroleum (QP) and its partners in Laffan Refinery Co. Ltd. (LR1) have signed a joint venture agreement for the Laffan Refinery 2 (LR2) project in Qatar (PCN, 12 Sept 2012, p 4). The partners, including Total, Cosmo Oil, Idemitsu Ko-san, Marubeni Corp. and Mitsui & Co., plan to invest about $1.5-billion to build a 146,000-b/d refinery, the same capacity as LR1, which came on stream in 2009.
