The pace of fundraising by the private equity sector for energy investment has slowed to a crawl in recent months as executives now look to put the mountain of capital already raised to use. According to alternative investment data firm Preqin, private equity firms collectively raised $91 billion from 2013-15 across 74 funds that has been earmarked for investment in the oil and gas industry. Preqin data also show that private equity firms have been able to raise just $1.8 billion via four funds so far in 2016, a steep fall compared to the past few years.
