The White House said Monday that it has secured pledges from 13 large US companies that have agreed to take individual steps to lower their carbon footprints. Some of them specifically promised to curb their oil consumption. The pledge also puts the companies on record as favoring a "strong outcome" from the UN climate change talks in Paris later this year ( OD Dec.26'14 ).
