Colombia's state - controlled Ecopetrol said the country's former finance minister Juan Carlos Echeverry has been elected as the company's new president. Echeverry, an economist by profession, was Colombia's finance minister from 2010 to 2012 and has twice served on Ecopetrol's board of directors. However, industry observers said his appointment was a political move and that he lacks the necessary technical expertise to lead a turnaround of the struggling Colombian producer.
