"Drop - in" biofuels -- made from animals fats, solid waste or algae -- have piqued the interest of many US oil refiners, which view such fuels as more economical than ethanol. Although drop - ins are still in the early stages of development, they are identical in composition to gasoline, diesel or jet fuel.
