Kenya to Delineate More Blocks

Kenya is to demarcate seven new deepwater exploration blocks to exploit the burst of interest in East Africa’s offshore acreage after major gas discoveries in neighboring Tanzania and Mozambique (OD Nov.29’11). The seven blocks with water depths of up to 3,000 meters (9,850 feet) are likely to be eyed by major oil companies after France’s Total earlier this year farmed into 40% of five offshore blocks — L5, L7, L11A, L11B and L12 — operated by US Anadarko Petroleum.
