Electrical and electronic engineering company Siemens' industry automation division has developed a new distributed motor starter for conveying applications that could be beneficial in mine separation plants, batching applications and other applications where a significant number of small motors, usually below 5,5 kW, coexist in close proximity. The yet-to-be-launched M200D AS-I basic motor starter will start and protect motors up to 5,5 kW. This will offer a higher degree of protection for spatially distributed drive applications, says Siemens Intelligent Starters product manager Megen Naidoo.
