摘要

BRAD Sampson says: "I know it's a generality, but it seems most Australians see Africa as one, scary country, rather than as a group of countries that can be very different from one another." This is an important issue for Mr Sampson, who has just completed his first year as chief executive of Discovery Metals Ltd (DML) - 70% of its shares are held by Australians, but it operates in Botswana. Mr Sampson describes himself as an Australian "with African dust in my veins". This is because for nine years, from early 1989, he worked in South Africa; a country that fascinated him since he did some vacation work there while studying for his mining-engineering degree.
