AL SCRAP PRICES FALL AS SUMMER SHUTDOWN LOOMS

LONDON - Aluminium scrap prices in the UK fell last week on an abundance of material ahead of summer shutdowns, with merchants being forced to accept lower prices as ingot producers attempt to reduce stock levels. Scrap prices dropped by an average of 10 pounds per tonne across the board: baled old rolled, for example, fell to 830-840 pounds per tonne from 840-850 pounds per tonne the week before. Group 1 litho fell by 20 pounds to 1,240-1,250 pounds per tonne from 1,260-1,270 pounds per tonne the week before, as did commercial pure cuttings, trading at 1,020-1,080 pounds per tonne, compared with 1,040-1,100 pounds previously. Clean HE9 extrusions fell by 50 pounds on July 11, trading at 1,250-1,270 pounds per tonne compared with 1,300-1,320 pounds last week.
