Integrated steelmakers' need for prime steel scrap has boosted prices for auto factory bundles by about 6 dollars a long ten. The move took the AMM factory bundles index to 128 dollars a ton, the seventh consecutive monthly rise for the bellwether grade. Prior to the auction, most traders and brokers believed prices would remain unchanged. One factor driving the market is less supply of bundles and other scrap from auto plants due to seasonal shutdowns.
