Aweeklong inspection of a Gaston, S.C., plant run by Diamond Pet Foods shows it was not conducting microbiological tests on incoming animal fat, FDA says in its inspection report posted May 15.Fifteen people in nine states and one person in Canada have been infected with Salmonella after handling dry dog food, according to the latest reports from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since Oct. 8, 2011, when reports of illnesses began to be collected, five people have been hospitalized.
