Negotiations between global potash exporters and Chinese and Indian importers continued this week over new contract supply agreements, while elsewhere market participants were attending the Southwest Fertilizer Conference in Texas. India’s IPL is reported to be in discussions with Canpotex and Uralkali over price and volume agreements for 2016/17 potash supply. If the exporters do not agree to sell MOP at $227/mt CFR – the price previously agreed with BPC – then the importer is prepared to receive increased volumes from others. The stance is unsurprising, and exporters are likely to agree to supply potash at that price in order to avoid losing market share in India. This week, K+S reportedly agreed to sell 125,000 mt MOP to IPL at this price, according to a Reuters report. While this was not confirmed by K+S, further Indian supply agreements are expected in the coming weeks.
