The Thai ministry of commerce recently stated that it would seek to limit 2016/17 main crop rice plantings to 8.9 million hectares (9.9 million last year). Other government agencies are advising farmers to delay plantings until July as a result of the continued drought. Urea sales have already been limited in 2016 and this news will add further bearish sentiment to the market.
