Vale to sell fertilizer business to Mosaic for $2.5 billion

Mosaic agreed to acquire the majority of Vale's fertilizer business for an initial purchase price of $2.5 billion, Mosaic announced in a press release December 19. Vale has the potential to earn an additional $260 million in cash over the two-year period following the acquisition if certain financial targets related to the average MAP price and Brazilian real exchange rate are achieved.
