Union cancels plans for general strike in south Israel

Just days ahead of general elections in Israel, the Israeli labour union Histadrut called off a planned general strike to protest ICL job cuts in the south, according to the Jerusalem Post. Late on March 11, ICL agreed to freeze letters of dismissal for 140 workers to stop the general strike, which would have affected government offices, private businesses, ports and some public transport days ahead of the election on March 17. ICL told Fertilizer Week that it has not rescinded the dismissals and if the negotiations collapse it will return to the original dismissal plan.
