Geo Specialty Chemicals Inc., an Ohio company that lists corporate offices in Ambler, Penn., has pleaded guilty to its role in a conspiracy to eliminate competition involving contracts to supply liquid aluminum sulfate (LAS) to municipalities and pulp and paper manufacturers in the U.S., and agreed to pay a fine of $5 million, according to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). While the product is widely used for wastewater treatment and in the paper industry, it can also be used as a soil amendment to balance pH levels and improve nutrient uptake.
