An influential panel of UK members of parliament has called for an independent system operator (ISO) to assume control of the national electricity grid, in an apparent push to abandon the transmission services operator (TSO) model currently in place throughout Europe. The UK Energy and Climate Change Committee, which is tasked with scrutinising policy on energy matters, found that the current TSO, National Grid, has major conflicts of interest that could undermine the country’s carbon reduction goals, according to a report released by the committee on Friday.
