US oil prices tumbled more than 3% to a 6 1/2 year intraday low of less than $42 per barrel on Thursday as data pointing to a big rise in US stockpiles intensified concerns about a global supply glut. A rise in the dollar -- following news of higher US retail sales and stronger employment data -- added to the downward pressure on oil.
