US senators and the Obama administration reached a deal Tuesday that may allow Congress limited oversight on the agreement brokered by US President Barack Obama over Iran's nuclear program (IOD Apr.7'15). After lengthy discussions between committee Chairman Bob Corker and the committee's top Democrat Ben Cardin that toned down some of the original legislation, senators agreed to a bill that would give Congress 30 days to review any agreement Obama reaches over Iran's nuclear program in talks scheduled for this summer, so long as the agreement is submitted before Jul. 10. During that period, Obama could not authorize relief from US sanctions targeting Iran's nuclear program.
