Gazprom Advances South Stream Project Implementation

Just one day after signing a historic gas deal with China in Shanghai, Russian state giant Gazprom shifted its focus to top priority pipeline projects in Europe, saying that a contract to build the Serbian section of the South Stream pipeline will soon be signed. On the first day of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Thursday, Gazprom turned to European issues, particularly the construction of the 63 billion cubic meter per year South Stream pipeline bypassing Ukraine--currently the key transit destination for Russian gas supplies to Europe.
