China's Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) has slapped a 500,000 yuan ($82,000) pollution fine on state PetroChina's subsidiary, Jilin Oilfield Co., over the alleged illegal discharge of wastewater from a natural gas plant at the Jilin oil field in Northeast China. The MEP has also asked the local police to investigate criminal charges against PetroChina's local company officials.
