Oil Spill Hits Philippines Shores

Yet another oil spill marred the waters of Southeast Asia when up to 500,000 liters (3,145 bbl) of gasoil leaked into the sea last week just south of the Philippines' capital Manila. The spill has affected 35 villages in four municipalities in the province of Cavite, according to the Philippines' National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, as well as polluted up to 300,000 sq km. Refiner and products marketer Petron, which operates the nearby oil depot in Rosario, has admitted responsibility for the spill, according to local newspapers.
