Bahrain could increase its gas production capacity to 2.7 Bcf/d by 2024 by targeting deep gas, Oil Minister Abdul Hussein Mirza said in an interview published by Kuwait's state news agency earlier this week. Mirza said a contract to explore for gas at depths of up to 20,000 feet awarded to US Occidental Petroleum earlier this year could raise output from its current summer peak of 1.9 Bcf/d (IOD Dec.7'10).
