Russia's giant Barents Sea Shtokman gas development appears to have run into fresh problems, not long after investors finally agreed on the basic project design and timetable. The latest obstacle is funding, with the three partners in Shtokman Development AG (SDAG), the operating company for the scheme's 25-year first phase, recently holding more talks on financing ahead of an expected final investment decision (FID) by the end of the year. Russia's Gazprom holds 51% in SDAG, with French oil giant Total on 25% and Norway's Statoil on 24%. "Financing is now a key stumbling block," a source tells International Oil Daily.
