The nuclear crisis in Japan will not slow the re-licensing of US nuclear power plants, an official with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) told Congress on Tuesday. About one-half of the 104 US nuclear plants have already received 20-year license extensions, and renewals will continue for the rest over the next several years, Bill Bor-chardt, the commission's executive director for operations, told the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.
