The distribution arm of Italy's Enel un- veiled a ?10 million ($13.7 million) "smart" distribution grid pilot project named Molise on Monday. A designated section of the low- and medium-voltage network grid in Italy, connected to a sub- station at Carpinone in central Italy, will use various energy-saving technologies to reduce consumption for both suppliers and consumers. The Molise section of the grid will op- erate using 0.7 MW of lithium-battery- powered storage, smart meters in con- sumer locations plus advanced systems to better gauge actual renewable electricity input to the grid, as well as electric vehi- cle charging points.
