Chinese authorities have launched an investigation into ConocoPhillips' role in two oil spills offshore China's east coast that officials say have polluted 840 square kilometers. The spills occurred last month in the Peng Lai 19-3 field, China's biggest offshore field in Bohai Bay, but were not disclosed until this week. The authorities appear to be blaming operator Conoco for the leaks, which occurred near the field's B and C platforms.
