Oman's Mukhaizna Project on Track, but Economics Are Key

Oil production from the Occidental-op-erated Mukhaizna field in Oman nowstands at 125,000 barrels per day, but theoriginal target of 150,000 b/d may bescrapped if the economics don't stack up,according to Maurizio La Noce, the CEO ofone of Oxy's Mukhaizna partners, AbuDhabi-owned Mubadala.The acreage forms part of Block 53,which was awarded to Oxy and its part-ners in 2005 after being carved out of Pe-troleum Development Oman's (PDO) giantBlock 6. Original plans called for produc-tion to increase to 150,000 b/d by 2011using large-scale steam injection from10,000 b/d or less.
