Argentina Signs Up With Qatargas for Long-Term Supply of LNG

Scrambling to meet soaring demand for natural gas, Argentina has signed a preliminary heads of agreement with Qatargas for a long-term deal under which it will supply the Latin American country with 5 million tons of LNG (675 million cubic feet per day) per year for 20 years. Qatargas said it will begin deliveries to Argentina's state-run Enarsa in 2014, under what will be Argentina's first longterm LNG supply contract. Since Enarsa began importing LNG in 2008, it has generally relied on short-term deals with suppliers on an as-needed basis, typically based on seasonal demand.
