Statoil and its partners in North Sea production license 035 have struck oil in exploration well 30/11 8 S in the Norwegian North Sea Krafla prospect. Based on preliminary estimates, Statoil said the discovery -in Block 30/11, 26 km south of the Oseberg South field -could yield 12.5 million-56.5 million boe of recoverable reserves. Drilled by the Ocean Vanguard rig to a depth of 3,822 meters below sea level, the 30/11-8 S well proved an oil column of around 200 meters in good-quality reservoir rocks. "Statoil seems to have made a fast-track discovery in our first operated well in this license," it said Tuesday. Six previous exploration wells drilled in Block 30/11 were non-commercial.
