Gas Drives Exploration Revival in Papua New Guinea

Papua New Guinea is poised for its busiest exploration period in several years as long-time players and new entrants alike target discoveries that may underpin new gas-based export projects. Encouraged by last December's go-ahead for Exxon Mobil's US$15 billion, 6.6 million ton per year PNG LNG scheme, explorers are sharpening the drill bit to support an expansion of that project or a new standalone venture (IOD Dec.9,p3).
