Norway is widely viewed as the para- digm for offshore safety so it would make sense for the US to follow in Oslo's foot- steps as it strives to implement a better reg- ulatory regime following the Macondo oil disaster. However, experts say the US would need to overcome significant politi- cal and cultural obstacles in order to apply a Norwegian-type system to its offshore oil and gas sector.
