GDF Wins International Power

Shareholders in International Power, the UK-based generator with 34,408 megawatts of installed capacity worldwide, have voted by over 99% for its takeover by GDF Suez, ending a decade of independence. They will retain 30% equity in the en- larged venture, New International Power (NIP), that will be 70% controlled by the French giant. NIP will include power plant assets previously held by GDF Suez in the Americas and the UK (IOD Aug.11,p2).
