Centrica, the owner of the British Gas re- tail brand, said it had a strong third quarter and was on track to beat analyst forecasts for its full-year operating profit. The announcement came just days after the company, one of the so-called “Big Six” UK suppliers, said it was raising gas and electricity tariffs by 7% on average for all but the poorest of its retail customers - but that even they would face a price hike once the winter was over.
