“For the first time ever, the Statoil executive committee will have to conduct its business in English, and that is a big change,” says a Statoil project manager at one of the many evening receptions surrounding the ONS2010 industry gathering in Stavanger, Norway. Many Norwegians speak English well, but now holding key meetings in the native tongue is not even an option since Statoil Chief Executive Helge Lund has included three foreign nationals (two Brits and one American) among five new appointees to the state-controlled national champion’s top-level Corporate Executive Committee (CEC).
