摘要

China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) may have grabbed headlines over the weekend with its winning bid for Iraq's big Halfaya oil field, but smaller Asian state companies also notched up successes in Baghdad's second postwar bid round (see p1). Malaysia's Petronas figured prominently. On the first day of the two-day auction on Friday, it teamed up with Royal Dutch Shell to win the prized Majnoon field in the south and was part of the CNPC-led consortium that lifted Halfaya. On the second day, Petronas won the Garraf field in partnership with Japan Petroleum Exploration (Japex), and was a member of the group led by Russian gas giant Gazprom that was awarded the Badra field.
