Gerhard Schroder, the former German chancellor and associate of Russia's strongman prime minister, Vladimir Putin, has been appointed to the board of TNK-BP, Russia's third-largest oil company, the Russian-UK joint venture said Thursday.Schroder, who was criticized for promoting Russia's Nord Stream gas pipeline while he was still in office and for subsequently accepting a senior position with the pipeline compa-n y, is one of three independent candidates appointed to the new-look board that TNK-BP has set up to improve corporate governance.
