Describing ion diffusion mechanisms in cement-based materials using the homogenization technique

摘要

The application of the homogenization technique tothe mathematical description of the diffusion mechanisms insaturated cement-based materials is discussed. According to thisapproach, the transport and mass conservation equations are firstwritten at the microscopic scale to describe the movement ofparticles in the fluid phase of the material. These equations arethen averaged over the entire volume of the material. An exampleof the application of the homogenization technique is given. Thehomogenization technique is used to describe the diffusion of ionsin cement-based systems. The various equations are written toconsider the charged nature of the ionic particles and the couplingbetween the various ionic fluxes. The numerous advantages of thistechnique for the modeling of mass transport mechanisms incement-based materials are discussed.
